Going down for the count…

VintageTwins have announced the following roster moves:

Placed JunkWaxTwins on the 60-day disabled list with ongoing shoulder issues; recalled Another__Castle.

Joking aside, MLB.com has a pretty thorough catalog of roster moves dating back to 2001, presumably when MLB AM took over their digital front. Looking back at the previous Twins roster moves in the final day of March, some interesting ones include:

2001: optioned or reassigned 5 players to minors, and transferred Jay Canizaro to 60 day DL.
2002: optioned or reassigned 3 players, including Matt LeCroy to minors, and transferred Mike Duvall(Elbow Sprain) to 60 day DL.
2003: Purchased the contract of Mike Fetters, optioned Todd Sears to minors, and Jose Morban claimed off waivers by Orioles. – The same Jose Morban that we made room on the 40 man roster move by releasing David Ortiz in December of 2002…. what could have been.
2004: Between the 16th and the 31st, the Twins optioned Lew Ford, Justin Morneau, Matt Guerrier, Jesse Crain, Boof Bonser, Jason Bartlett, Terry Tiffee, Jason Kubel, Luis Rodriguez to the minor leagues. Lot of playoff memories with that group.
2005: Terry Tiffee again optioned to minor league camp with Augie Ojeda, reassigned Willie Eyre and Chris Heintz, and released C.J. Nitkowski.
2006: Optioned Jason Bartlett to minor league camp.
2007: Selected the contract of Sidney Ponson from minor league camp. What a waste that was…
2008: Optioned Francisco Liriano to single-A Ft. Myers. Had he bounced back from his surgery better, what potential he showed in 2006…
2009: Optioned Drew “butters” Butera, Jose Mijares to minor league camp.
2010: Assigned and optioned many, but most importantly placed Joe Nathan on 15 day DL stemming from his Tommy John surgery that month. :/.
2011: Assigned Anthony Slama, Luke Hughes, Jim Hoey to minor league camp.
2012: Drew “butters” Butera optioned to Triple-A Rochester with Kyle Waldrop.
2013: Recalled Wilkin Ramirez from Rochester. Toronto claims Alex Burnett.
2014: Brian Duensing goes on Paternity list(Congrats Brian!), Michael Tonkin recalled from Rochester.
2015: Released Kyle Knudson, Matt Koch(six games with Angels minor league system before batting .280/.316/.278 with Indy American Association Sioux City Explorers), Mike Kvasnicka(who hit .299/.340/.502 with 10 home runs and 63 RBI(good for third on his team) for the St. Paul Saints of the same American Association). Interestingly, St. Paul(managed by ex-Twin George Tsamis) and Sioux City finished first and second by record in 2015. They even met in the playoffs where Sioux City would advance all the way to the finals and lose out to the Laredo Lemurs.

Which leads to this week’s transactions where we released “hard hittin'” Carlos Quentin, Cole Johnson, Joe Benson, and optioned Tyler Duffey, and Ryan O’Rourke to Triple-A Rochester. With Opening Day just a few days, what head scratchers did your team make in 2016? Any infamous mistakes in the past by releasing an all-star, future Hall of Fame candidate? Just us? Well then…
